Week 8 of the 2024-25 NFL season is upon us, and with every team in the league on the schedule for the last time until Week 13, there is plenty of uniform-related news to cover this weekend.

That includes the Tampa Bay Buccaneers wearing their creamsicle throwback uniforms, which they initially wore at home from their inaugural season in 1976 through a redesign in 1997, during Sunday afternoon’s game against the Atlanta Falcons.

The Buccaneers are 1-4 all time in the throwback uniforms, including a loss to the Detroit Lions last season after they were reintroduced following a 10-year hiatus that was prompted by the NFL’s one-helmet rule.

Tampa Bay has also painted the field at Raymond James Stadium with a classic design and installed vintage bunting on the walls to match their original home, Tampa Stadium.

Elsewhere in Florida, the Miami Dolphins have decided to wear their all-white uniforms at home on Sunday, forcing the Arizona Cardinals to wear their red jerseys and pants on the road.

This will be the third time since their current uniform set was introduced last season that the Cardinals will wear red jerseys and pants on the road, joining losses at the Washington Commanders and Chicago Bears in 2023.

The Dolphins won’t be the only team wearing all-white at home, though, as the Cincinnati Bengals will don their white alternate helmets during Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Bengals are 4-0 in their white helmets and 2-0 when paired with their current road uniforms after petitioning the league last season to scrap their Color Rush set, including wins over the Dolphins and Pittsburgh Steelers in 2022 and Los Angeles Rams and Jacksonville Jaguars in 2023.

Like the Buccaneers, the Bengals have painted the field at Paycor Stadium to match their uniforms, though it’s worth pointing out they’ve painted over the orange that has been installed in the turf, whereas the Buccaneers play on natural grass and could change designs weekly.

The Commanders, meanwhile, will don their all-black alternate uniforms during Sunday afternoon’s game against the Chicago Bears. It’s the second year in a row we’re seeing this uniform matchup, joining last season’s Oct. 5 matchup.

That Thursday night game and a loss to the New York Giants later in the season dropped Washington’s record in the all-black uniforms to 1-4 since they were introduced as part of the franchise’s rebrand in 2022.

Across the country, the San Francisco 49ers will wear the home version of their 1994 throwback uniforms for the second time this month when they host the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football.

The 49ers are 4-5 in the uniforms  – which feature drop shadows numbers, three sleeve stripes and white pants – since they were introduced in 2021. That includes a one-point loss to the Cardinals on Oct. 6.

Lastly, the Steelers will look very similar to the Commanders (it’s actually the other way around) when they wear their all-black Color Rush uniforms on Monday Night Football against the Giants.

The Steelers are 7-3 in the uniforms, which feature Pittsburgh’s standard black helmet, black jerseys with gold block numbers and gold stripes on the sleeves and black pants with a single gold stripe down the sides, since they were unveiled in 2016.
