If you’ve spent any time at all following movie trends in the last two decades, you’re certainly aware of the epic Fast and Furious franchise, which currently spans 11 films with a scheduled finale on pace to hit theaters next Spring. Whether you’re a lifelong viewer of the heart-thumping film series or a relative newcomer wondering what all the fuss is about, you will soon have a chance to binge-watch most of the films from the comfort of your very couch. According to What’s On Netflix, the first six volumes in the Fast and Furious franchise will be available to view on Netflix as of November 12.
Fast And Furious Is Speeding Into Netflix
The Fast and Furious saga began long before Netflix was offering home streaming, with the release of The Fast and the Furious all the way back in 2001. At the time, the film was a fairly straightforward action crime outing that centered on an undercover cop who infiltrates a gang of illegal drag racers.
From there, the officer, as portrayed by the legendary Paul Walker, develops a complex relationship with the criminals, and ultimately becomes an integral part of the gang’s illegal operation. As criminal enforcer Dom Toretto always says, the gang are more like a close-knit family than a group of average evildoers.
Ironically, the same Stockholm-like effect that takes hold over Walker’s character seems to infect the audience, as subsequent installments of the Fast and Furious franchise continue to up the stakes exponentially, endearing the viewing public to the gang’s illegal activities.
By the time you reach the end of your Fast and Furious binge-fest on Netflix, you’ll come to see that the gang have morphed from a rag-tag group of street racers to a sophisticated crime conglomerate which sometimes pulls international missions for official spy agencies. This includes instances of Dom and his friends riding tanks, hijacking spaceships, and performing incredible stunts that will genuinely hurt your brain if you think about the physics too hard.
Not Every Entry Is Available
While it’s quite exciting that the Fast and Furious saga will be available on Netflix, it is a bit upsetting that the entire franchise won’t be moved over to the streamer all at once. Spinoff films such as 2019’s Hobbs & Shaw can essentially be skipped over and forgotten about entirely, though the lack of recent installments such as Furious 7, The Fate of the Furious, and F9 The Fast Saga, definitely makes for an incomplete binge.
Furious 7‘s exclusion is especially upsetting, as the film touts the highest Rotten Tomatoes score of the entire franchise, with a certified fresh 82 percent.
Streaming The First 6 This November
Luckily, the addition of the first six Fast and Furious volumes seems to signal that Netflix is interested in bringing the entire franchise onto their library. This means that execs at the streamer will likely be checking to see how these films perform with subscribers before ultimately making their bid for Furious 7 and beyond. With any luck, enough word of mouth could get the entire 11+ feature films on the platform by early 2025.
Next year’s Fast & Furious 11 will allegedly close the loop on the entire franchise, so it could serve as an excuse to binge-watch your way through the entire affair before April, schedule permitting. The first six Fast and Furious movies will be streaming on Netflix starting November 12.
