Emily Ratajkowski never misses an opportunity to make a bold fashion statement.
Taking to Instagram on Thursday, October 31, the model and author posted photos of herself dressed at Jennifer Lopez for Halloween in a plunging green dress inspired by the legendary Versace look J.Lo wore to the 2000 Grammys. Ratajkowski, 33, included one of her usual pithy captions, which on this occasion read: “no limits, all dreams.”
The look wasn’t (just) about pushing the limits of a dangerously-low neckline; it was also an homage to Lopez, 55, and the ionic dress that launched Google Images.
As the story goes, when Lopez wore the jaw-dropping look on the Grammys red carpet in 2000, Google was inundated with so many searches for photos, it ultimately led to the creation of Google’s image search function. The rest, as they say, is fashion history.
Dressed in the ultimate example of boundary-defying styles, Ratajkowski’s jungle-print sheer gown was unapologetically sexy in all the right ways. Her glam was also fully committed to the character, from freshly spray-tanned limbs to a perfectly styled half-up, half-down high ponytail to the strategic use of 2000s-era highlighter on her cheekbones.
Then again, we’d expect nothing less from EmRata on Halloween or otherwise. After all, the model has a well-known penchant for using her wardrobe to send a larger message.
The most recent example came this week on Tuesday, October 29, when she attended the WSJ. Magazine Innovator Awards in a JW Anderson frock. Embroidered with black text taken from Clive Bell’s 1914 book, Art, the look was a stylish lesson in philosophy.
And if celebrity Halloween costumes are anything to theorize on, Ratajkowski dressed as J.Lo is all but destined to go down as one of the most memorable turns of the night.
