Is the Florida QB playing today against LSU?

Must read

The Florida Gators are all set to host No. 21-ranked LSU on Saturday at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

With a 4-5 (2-4 Southeastern Conference) record, Florida must win two of its remaining three games to avoid a fourth consecutive losing season.

A major storyline heading into this matchup is the status of freshman quarterback DJ Lagway, who has been sidelined since Week 10 due to a hamstring injury.

DJ Lagway injury update: What happened to Florida QB?

Although listed as “questionable” earlier this week, Lagway was removed from the injury report on Thursday. However, he was removed entirely from it after an update from Gators coach Billy Napier.

Lagway, the No. 7 overall recruit and No. 2 quarterback prospect in the 2024 class according to 247Sports’ composite rankings, sustained the injury during the first half of Florida’s game against Georgia.

At the time, the Gators held a 10-3 lead. He did not return to the field and was subsequently ruled out of Florida’s next game against Texas.

DJ Lagway’s comeback: What it means for Florida vs. LSU

Lagway has shown promise in his freshman season, throwing for 1,071 yards with six touchdowns and five interceptions. Additionally, he has contributed as a runner with 114 rushing yards on 37 carries. His return to the lineup will give Florida a dual-threat option under center against LSU (6-3, 3-2 SEC).

In his absence, backup quarterback Max Warner struggled to find rhythm. Against Georgia, Warner completed only 7 of 22 passes for 66 yards and one interception.

With Lagway back, Warner will return to the backup role, while Colorado State transfer Clay Millen is third on the depth chart. The Gators are expected to lean on Lagway’s arm and mobility to ignite their offense.
