Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing Girona centre-back Ladislav Krejci. They are looking to bring him to the Santiago Bernabeu either in January or in the summer of 2025.

Los Blancos have suffered numerous injuries since the start of last season, especially in defense. Eder Militao, who went through an ACL injury last season, has been ruled out of this season for suffering another ACL injury in his other knee. David Alaba, who also suffered the same injury last year has yet to return to action.

Antonio Rudiger is the only senior and dependable centre-back Real Madrid have, with Jesus Vallejo out of favor. Raul Ascencio has performed well since coming up from the academy but the Spanish giants are still looking for reinforcements. As per Defensa Central (via The Hard Tackle), they have identified Krejci as a target.

The Czechia international joined Girona from Sparta Prague in the summer and has been excellent for them so far. He’s made 15 appearances across competitions and also contributed two goals and one assist. His performances have seen him garner attention from top clubs. His contract with Girona expires in 2029.

Carlo Ancelotti provides update on defender’s fitness after Real Madrid’s win over Girona

Los Blancos beat Girona 3-0 at the Montilivi Stadium in LaLiga on Saturday, December 7. Jude Bellingham opened the scoring in the 36th minute before Arda Guler added another 19 minutes later. Kylian Mbappe then made it 3-0 in the 62nd minute.

Raul Ascenio, though, didn’t start the game and came on for the last 11 minutes. Carlo Ancelotti decided to pair Antonio Rudiger with Aurelien Tchouameni in defense against Girona. When asked why the 21-year-old didn’t start, the Italian manager said (via Managing Madrid):

“It was because of the short recovery time, it had taken him a little longer to recover after Bilbao, I think it was just a problem of fatigue. Raúl has shown all his quality, he is a very good player, a very reliable centre-back.”

Ascencio was promoted to Real Madrid’s first team this season amidst their injury crisis. He’s made six appearances across competitions, helping keep four clean sheets. He’s also provided an assist.

The Spaniard is expected to start for Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League in midweek. They will face Atalanta at the Gewiss Stadium on Tuesday, December 10.
