All I know is I’ve felt great

Must read

The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired pitcher Jack Flaherty from the Detroit Tigers just minutes before the MLB trade deadline on Tuesday. In return, the Tigers received minor-league prospects Thayron Liranzo and Trey Sweeney.

However, there are some concerns about Flaherty’s health, as he missed a start earlier in July due to lower back issues and received two injections for treatment. Addressing the concerns about his injury, Flaherty said:

“All I know is I’ve been great. I’ve felt great. Since we got back from the [All-Star] break or even before that, I felt great. Just being ready to pitch and pretty anxious, just wanting to get out there. I pitched a week ago and getting scratched, I understand is part of it. Just looking forward to getting out there again.”

The LA Dodgers and New York Yankees were both interested in acquiring the right-hander. However, the Yankees backed out after examining his medical records, as per The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts opens up about Jack Flaherty’s addition

Despite his injury issues, Jack Flaherty had a strong performance with the Detroit Tigers during the 2024 season. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts also addressed concerns about Flaherty’s addition (via ESPN):

“I’m very comfortable. I just talked to him today; he feels great. The training staff says he looks great, feels good. I know he liked the way that he was used and he’s having a tremendous season, so I plan on just kind of building on that.”

In 18 appearances with the Tigers, Flaherty recorded 133 strikeouts, a 2.95 ERA, a 0.96 WHIP and a 7-5 win-loss record. Flaherty, a California native, was overjoyed about the thought of playing for his hometown team:

“I think everyone deep down wants to play for their hometown team, then getting the opportunity to is just special,” Flaherty said. “And just being a part of this organization, how good this team is and how good they’ve been for years, is just special.”

Jack Flaherty is expected to make his debut with the Dodgers on Saturday against the Oakland Athletics at Oakland Coliseum.
