Arizona Wildcats To Wear Iconic Cactus Logo On Helmets For Homecoming – SportsLogos.Net News

Must read

The Arizona football program will wear the iconic cactus logo that used to be displayed on the basketball court at the McKale Center on its helmets during Saturday’s Homecoming matchup with Colorado.

The logo features a red block “Arizona” wordmark with a green saguaro cactus rising out of the “I,” as well as blue mountains and a red sun with a gradient-like effect to replicate the sun setting in the desert.

As mentioned, the logo is synonymous with the basketball program, as it was prominently displayed beyond the three-point line on Lute and Bobbi Olson Court from 1987 until 2009, when it was replaced by Lute Olson’s signature.

Olson won 589 games during his 24 seasons as the Wildcats’ head coach and notably led the program to 23 straight NCAA Tournament appearances, four Final Four appearances and their only NCAA championship in 1997.

This marks the fourth different helmet design for the Wildcats this season, as they’ve also worn their traditional white Block “A” helmets and red and white lids with a script “Cats” on the sides.

Saturday’s helmet, which is white with Arizona’s standard red, white and blue stripes down the center and a metallic red facemask, will be paired with red jerseys and pants against the Buffaloes.
