The Canadian Football League’s Saskatchewan Roughriders will need bigger closets in 2024, because they’re reportedly getting ready to add a fourth uniform to their rotation.
According to the Piffles Podcast, which covers the Riders extensively, the team is adding a new uniform in 2024 that will use a darker “obsidian” shade of green and a lighter “emerald” green in addition to their usual Rider green. These shades were added to the Riders’ style guide in 2022.
The report also says the uniform will be similar to ones shown to focus groups several seasons ago, and will be mainly obsidian green with emerald highlights and very little white. Piffles Podcast contributor Greg McCulloch put together this concept based on reports from the focus groups:
The new uniform will also reportedly come with a new helmet that is mainly the darker “obsidian” shade of green. According to Piffles Podcast, the helmet will feature a new Riders logo — either in full or in part — that the team trademarked in 2022.
The new alternate will join the Riders’ regular home and away uniforms in their rotation, along with their retro throwbacks.
The Piffles team speculates that the uniforms could make their debut on Friday, July 19, against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The Riders recently announced their home game themes for the 2024 season, and that game will be dubbed “Green Is The Colour” night:
Green is indeed the colour — and like the shades you’ll see throughout our province — there are always plenty of green hues inside a packed Mosaic Stadium… Especially when Rider Nation welcomes the Winnipeg Blue Bombers!
