The Connecticut Sun visited the Chicago Sky at the Wintrust Arena on Wednesday night as part of the 2024 WNBA Commissioner’s Cup. The Sun and the Sky are out of contention to qualify for the WNBA Cup Final, but the game remains important since it will count for the regular season standings.
Connecticut narrowly missed out on representing the Eastern Conference after suffering their first loss of the season against the New York Liberty. Chicago, on the other hand, has only one win in the in-season tournament heading into tonight’s matchup.
The first half was a very tight game with the Sun having just a two-point lead entering the third quarter. The game was still close until Connecticut went on an 8-0 run to start the final period. They never looked back to get the 83-75 victory over the Sky.

Alyssa Thomas led the way for the Connecticut Sun with 20 points, seven rebounds, four assists and six steals. Thomas had six turnovers in the first half and none in the second. DeWanna Bonner had 16 points, eight rebounds and three assists, while Brionna Jones added 18 points and four rebounds in 25 minutes.
Tyasha Harris contributed 13 points, four rebounds and seven assists, and DiJonai Carrington scored nine points. It was a total team effort for the Sun as they improved to 11-1 for the season.

Angel Reese put up another double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds on 8-for-10 shooting from the field. It was the best game of Reese’s young career, while Kamilla Cardoso had 10 points, nine rebounds and three blocks in 30 minutes of action.
Marina Mabrey added 10 points, six rebounds, five assists and three blocks, but went 3-for-13 from the field. Chennedy Carter scored 10 points off the bench, but eight of them were in the first half. The Chicago Sky fell to 4-7 for the season, which is the fifth-worst record in the league.

On the other hand, the Sky have a two-game road trip next against the Washington Mystics and Indiana Fever. They then go back home for a four-game set versus the Dallas Wings, Indiana Fever, Las Vegas Aces and Minnesota Lynx.
