PRAGUE, Sept. 20 (Yonhap) — The following is the full text of a joint statement adopted during a summit between President Yoon Suk Yeol and Czecn Prime Minister Petr Fiala held in Prague on Friday.
H.E. Yoon Suk Yeol, President of the Republic of Korea, and H.E. Petr Fiala, Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, met on 20 September 2024, on the occasion of the official visit paid by H.E. President Yoon Suk Yeol to the Czech Republic from 19 to 21 September 2024.
During the meeting both leaders recalled the Strategic Partnership established between the Czech Republic and the Republic of Korea (hereinafter referred to as “both Sides”) in 2015 and recognized the solid foundation of friendship between the two countries, based on common interests and shared values of democracy, human rights and the rule of law since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1990.
Both Sides noted with great satisfaction the wide range of cooperation which they have developed in the areas of economy, trade, investments, politics, security, science and technology, education, culture, tourism, people-to-people contacts and various regional and global agendas. Both Sides also emphasized the significant amount of potential for bilateral cooperation in further areas of mutual interest.
Noting that the coming year of 2025 marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Strategic Partnership, the leaders shared the view that both countries are ready to advance their relationship into a new qualitative level of cooperation.
Thus, recalling the Joint Declaration on the Establishment of the Strategic Partnership between the Republic of Korea and the Czech Republic concluded during the visit of H.E. Bohuslav Sobotka, Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, to the Republic of Korea in February 2015, both Sides shared their intent to further strengthen their Strategic Partnership, mainly in the fields of nuclear energy, trade and investment, science, technology and innovation, ICT, cyber security, infrastructure and transportation, tourism, culture, sports and others.
Sharing a vision of creating a more diverse, consolidated and future-oriented bilateral cooperation, both Sides welcomed the Action Plan for the Implementation of the Strategic Partnership between the Czech Republic and the Republic of Korea for Years 2025-2027, jointly adopted on the occasion of the meeting between President Yoon Suk Yeol and Prime Minister Petr Fiala.
Taking into consideration the changing dynamics of geopolitics and geoeconomics, both Sides underscored the need to jointly tackle the global challenges commonly faced, such as threats to the current rules-based order, violation of international law, weapons of mass destruction, disruptions in the global supply chains, energy crises, climate change, cyber threats and others. In this respect, both Sides, united in the same goal of contributing to international peace, security, democracy and prosperity, reaffirmed their commitment to exercising greater role and responsibility on the global stage.
Recognizing the close interconnection between the security of Europe and the Indo-Pacific, both leaders shared their views on Russian aggression against Ukraine and the developments on the Korean Peninsula, including the DPRK’s and Russia’s breach of the United Nations Security Council Resolutions. Both Sides reaffirmed their appreciation of each other’s initiatives and endeavors aimed at achieving a peacefully unified Korean Peninsula that is denuclearized, free and prosperous. Both Sides expressed their support for a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine.
