Los Angeles Dodgers All-Star first baseman Freddie Freeman caught the eye for the wrong reasons in their intense battle with the Philadelphia Phillies at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday. Both teams pushed each other with the series on the line in the rubber game.
Freeman dashed toward first base after a bunt attempt in the bottom of the fifth inning. The ball was hit straight to shortstop Trea Turner, who relayed a throw toward Bryce Harper.
Freeman, assuming his fate, seemingly slowed down only for Haprer to fumble the throw initially, affording Freeman a few extra seconds to reach base. While Freeman was called safe initially, the call was overturned as Harper seemingly collected the ball just in time on his second attempt.

Upon seeing the replays, many argued that Freeman would have made first base had he run full tilt, calling out his apparent ‘lack of hustle.’
Several fans referenced former Dodger Manny Machado, who seems to be often called out for his base running by fans.
“Manny Machado would never,” wrote a fan sarcastically.
“Don’t wanna hear anything else about Machado dodger fans,” another wrote.
“Not the Machado haters being quiet when Freeman doesn’t hustle,” alleged another fan.
However, several fans defended Freddie Freeman for what the star first baseman has gone through over the last few weeks following his son Max’s life-threatening disease.
“Give bro a break,” wrote a fan.
“You’re really picking on Freddie after the last two weeks he’s had. Not very classy,” argued a fan.
“A lot of people seem to be forgetting that this guy is playing through a terrible situation with his son,” fired back another fan.
Freddie Freeman’s multi-hit game goes in vain as Phillies clinch series
Freddie Freeman’s son Max was released from pediatric intensive care on Sunday and he continues his rehab with his mother and his two elder brothers at home after his father rejoined the Dodgers on Monday.
The former MVP missed eight games for the Dodgers after his son was admitted to the hospital post the All-Star break last month. Freeman is on a three-game hitting streak since his return in the series opener against the Phillies and also registered his 500th career double in Tuesday’s game.
However, his multi-hit game on Wednesday wasn’t enough as the Dodgers came second best against the Phillies offense led by Kyle Schwarber’s three home runs on the night. The Phillies claimed the rubber game 9-4 to clinch the three-game series with back-to-back wins.
