WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Hakeem Jeffries met with President Joe Biden to discuss House Democrats’ perspectives amid ongoing discussions over the president’s candidacy and Democrats’ “path forward,” the U.S. House Democratic leader said in a letter on Friday.
“In my conversation with President Biden, I directly expressed the full breadth of insight, heartfelt perspectives and conclusions about the path forward that the Caucus has shared in our recent time together,” Jeffries, the top Democrat in the House, wrote to his caucus.
Jeffries said he and Biden met privately on Thursday night. Many Democrats on Thursday closely watched the president’s press conference following the NATO summit in Washington, with some members urging Biden to step aside.
