This isn’t the first time Matthew McConaughey has teased a political career, as in 2020 he publicly considered running for governor in his home state of Texas. His potential entry into the race was teased leading up to the 2022 election, but he decided against running. He never disclosed a political party or platform during that time, making any future campaigns a mystery.Â
It’s unclear what position Matthew McConaughey would pursue in politics. His previous interest in running for governor in Texas and his appearance at a Governors Association meeting could mean he’s considering running for a position as governor. Of course, he could also be eying a national position, or looking to run in California rather than his home state.Â
