The Swedish Public Prosecutor’s office has closed the investigation into alleged sexual assault charges against Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe. According to reports from his home country France (via El Nacional), the charges have been dropped due to “insufficient evidence”.

Back in October, during the international break, Mbappe was in Sweden, having been left out of the France national team due to fitness concerns. He spent some time in Stockholm, where an alleged rape incident happened in the hotel where the 25-year-old was reportedly staying.

Despite numerous reports linking Kylian Mbappe directly to the situation, the Swedish Public Prosecutor’s office has not confirmed his involvement. The 25-year-old took to social media after the reports had emerged about his involvement, calling it “fake news”:

“FAKE NEWS!!!! ❌❌❌ It’s becoming so predictable, just before the hearing as if by chance 😉”

However, the case has now come to an end, with prosecutor Marina Chirakova stating in a letter (via El Nacional):

“There is not enough evidence to continue with the case… During the investigation, a person reasonably suspected of rape and two cases of sexual harassment has been identified, but I consider that the evidence is not sufficient to continue the procedure and, therefore, the investigation is closed.”

While Mbappe was in Stockholm, France beat Israel 4-1 in their Nations League group stage clash on October 10 at the Bozsik Arena. Les Bleus followed this up with a 2-1 win over Belgium at the King Baudouin Stadium on October 14.

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti shares Kylian Mbappe injury update

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has shared an update on Kylian Mbappe after the forward was forced off the pitch due to injury in the mid-week. The 25-year-old led the line in their 3-2 Champions League win over Atalanta at the Gewiss Stadium on December 10.

Mbappe scored in the game, producing a 10th minute opener for his 12th goal of the season. However, he had to leave the pitch in the 35th minute, having fallen to the turf.

After the game, Ancelotti said (via GOAL):

“[Mbappe] has a strain, some discomfort in his thigh. We’ll have to see. It doesn’t look serious, but I don’t know, we’ll see tomorrow. He couldn’t sprint. It was bothering him, so we had to substitute him.”

Without Kylian Mbappe, Los Blancos continued in brilliant form, seeing off the Italian giants and taking all three points home. Madrid now sit in 20th place on the UEFA Champions League table, having won three games and lost three games out of six.
