Fans of The Sims game are multigenerational at this point, with the first version of the game being released in 2000 for Microsoft by Electronic Arts. Technically, the Sims franchise has been around even longer than that, with the first version of the game being SimCity, released in 1989 for multiple platforms and also known as Retronyms and Micropolis.
While fans of The Sims as it exists now wouldn’t recognize previous versions of the game, there have also been multiple compilations, adaptations, and variations on the franchise over its 35-year existence, so The Sims movie covers a wide swath of fandom.Â
