The Washington Capitals today announced they would wear a TikTok logo on their road white jerseys beginning with the 2024-25 NHL season.
Starting with their preseason road game against the Boston Bruins on September 24, 2024, and running through to the conclusion of the 2027 Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Capitals will wear the TikTok logo (it looks black but could easily be dark navy blue) in the upper right corner of the front of their road white sweater. Washington will also wear a 50th anniversary patch on their uniform in the opposite corner.
The Washington Capitals are the eighth most-followed NHL team on the sometimes controversial social media app, with over 387,000 followers, 10.3 million likes, and over 14.4k posts using the #washingtoncapitals hashtag.

The Capitals were the first NHL team to announce they’d be wearing an advertisement on their uniform when they partnered up with Caesars Sportsbooks in September 2021 for their home and alternate jerseys, to begin with the 2022-23 season. This new deal with TikTok only applies to the Caps’ road uniform; the team will still wear the Caesars logo on their other sweaters.
The NHL approved ad patches on its on-ice uniforms in the Summer of 2021, starting with the 2022-23 season; for that first season, eleven of the league’s 32 clubs had patches in place, which increased to 17 for 2023-24. The two most recent Stanley Cup Champions wore advertisements on their jerseys as they raised the Cup above their heads.

TikTok is currently in a legal dispute with the United States government over plans to ban the mobile app within the country. American lawmakers have accused the app of spreading propaganda as well as being a security risk. With the Capitals deal with TikTok running over three full seasons, it would be surprising to see the team continue to wear the patch should the ban be successfully applied and enforced during the agreement, but we’ve seen stranger things in sports before.
