CJ CGV and the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) are teaming up to offer a new way to enjoy baseball by watching games in theaters, just in time for the upcoming era of 10 million spectators in professional baseball.

CGV and the KBO said Monday that they signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) regarding the 2024 KBO League CGV Theater Screening.

The signing ceremony was held at CGV Cine de Chef in Yongsan District, Seoul, with officials from both the KBO and the KBOP, (KBO Properties) in attendance.

Through this partnership, CGV aims to create synergy between baseball and theaters, providing a new culture of watching baseball in theaters as they prepare for the era of 10 million spectators in professional baseball.

Building on last year’s successful live theater broadcast of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO Korean Series, CGV plans to exclusively live broadcast major games from the league, All-Star games and postseason events in theaters this year.

The first game to be broadcast is the match between last year’s champions, LG, and the fourth-place team, NC, on June 30.

Following this, the All-Star game on July 6 will be broadcast, starting with the pre-game Summer Race event, where fans can interact with All-Star players. Ticket reservations for the first game between LG and NC will open sequentially from 11 a.m. on Tuesday.

CJ CGV CEO Heo Min-hoi said, “Last year, the live broadcast of the ‘2023 Korean Series’ in CGV theaters was very well received, with high seat occupancy rates. Based on this MOU with the KBO, we will make an effort to provide a new culture of cheering for baseball in theaters.”

Additionally, CGV is leading the culture of enjoying and cheering for sports in theaters. Besides broadcasting soccer matches like the World Cup and the Asian Cup, last year’s live broadcast of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO Korean Series baseball games in theaters was well received.
