SEOUL — South Korea has seized a stateless vessel that allegedly engaged in activities in violation of U.N. sanctions in waters off the country’s south coast, security sources said Wednesday.

The 3,000-ton cargo ship DEYI, reportedly en route to Russia from North Korea via China, was captured in waters off Yeosu around Saturday, they added.

A stateless 3,000-ton ship is forced to dock in waters off Gamcheon Port in the southeastern city of Busan on April 3, 2023. â–  Publication of opinion polls to be banned from Thursday through Election Day

SEOUL — The publication of opinion polls will be banned for a week in the run-up to next week’s parliamentary elections, the state election watchdog said Wednesday.

The ban will go into effect Thursday and run through the end of voting on April 10 because poll results could influence the elections and inaccurate or unfair surveys could undermine the fairness of the elections, the National Election Commission (NEC) said.

â–  Seoul’s ultrafine dust density falls to lowest levels this past winter since 2019

SEOUL — The average ultrafine dust density in Seoul fell to the lowest levels in the past four months since the city government began implementing a package of measures in 2019 to reduce air pollution during winter time, officials said Wednesday.

The anti-fine dust measures aim to reduce the frequency of fine dust concentrations polluting the air and their intensity during the winter months from December to March.

â–  Telemedicine services expanded to community health centers as doctors’ walkout drags on

SEOUL — The government allowed community health centers to provide remote clinical services via video or phone appointments on Wednesday, a senior official said, as a mass walkout by junior doctors has disrupted public health services at major hospitals for more than six weeks.

Telemedicine services have been extended to all hospitals since Feb. 23 to cope with the doctors’ labor action, but community health centers were excluded.
