The Cincinnati Bengals are in the process of installing new FieldTurf at Paycor Stadium after moving away from a slit-film playing surface this offseason and will have an updated design as a result.
Cincinnati’s primary “B” logo remains at midfield, where it has been displayed since the 2012 season, while the end zones feature the familiar “Bengals” wordmark with stripes in the background.
The stripes have been simplified from the previous design to better match the franchise’s latest uniform update in 2021, while their current number font can be seen in the yard markers.
“We want our field to be immediately recognizable and our primary logo accomplishes that in a clean, crisp way,” director of strategy and engagement Elizabeth Blackburn said.
“The 50-yard line is the natural spot for a team’s primary logo, and we feel lucky to have a mark that presents well on TV from a distance.”
The Bengals considered other designs, including placing the leaping tiger, tiger head or a helmet at the 50-yard line, but ultimately stuck with the “B” given the NFL’s policy on the size of midfield logos.
Cincinnati previously used a helmet at the 50-yard line from 1997-2001 and the leaping tiger from 2003-11. The helmet was also displayed at the 35-yard lines during the 2002 season, when the surface was still natural grass.
